Death Take a Holiday v.1

0

This is going to be a short post (as I am in the zone).

I did some work on Death Takes a Holiday today:

    - Rewrote the enemy code
    - Fixed the emitters
    - Added more emitters
    - Changed the test level
    - Figured out the basics on how Monster Debugger works
    - Working demo

“Bam said the lady” and here is my working demo.

Back to the Dev,

A quick update! Working on the demo of movement for “Death Takes a Holiday”. So far this is really basic, which is to say that it is not a game yet but just a demo.

Here is a demo of movement for “Death Takes a Holiday”:

What Have I Been Doing?

0

School and unfortunately not much else. Physics and Math, it turns out, take a lot of time but the Summer is coming and that means there will be an increase in my free time.

I’ve been working on something different, a new Flixel game called “Death Takes a Holiday”. The game is a prototype for general flixel game ideas to get a feel for the system.

The idea for “Death Takes a Holiday” are simple: The player is ‘Death’ or rather a Contractor for the organization Blackwater which now does all the work the the old Death used to do but for less money. The character ‘Death’ has decided to take a vacation day off and his goal is to get to the beach, however unfortunately if ‘Death’ touches anything with a soul it dies and the player collects the soul. If ‘Death’ collects too many souls he is teleported back to Deathco, Inc Headquarters to turn them back in ( for the sake of this game that is to say the Player dies). Once the player is returned to HQ they must start the attempt for the beach all over again.

Here are some basic screens:

This was a basic tile map. I made it so that I could see how everything looked… currently, not so good:

I spent about two hours learning how to adjust it and am now at this point:

Well worth the time, thing looks much better!

Finally here is the main character:

Sure he is  a little small but packs a mighty scythe.

Maybe I should go to the beach…

Flixel

I’m taking a break from AtoP while let some ideas for it marinate. I have begun working on my next game called: Windthorp 1860′s Dinosaur Hunter!

Here is a small taste:

More to come on this adventure.

Attack of the FLIXEL

While I have finished a level in AotP. A minor accomplishment but it is fun enough for me to post a build of it on drop.io. Please note that I have removed the laser, but I think the game is still fun.

As for Flixel, I have some work to share located at: drop.io/GigaBlam The link is very simple, just a character that can run and jump for now, but I’m working on more for the future.

Additionally, if anybody out there knows how to post Flash files or Unity files on a basic WordPress account let me know.

Back to the Game.

AotP v0.22

I must apologize (to my one reader) that I didn’t update this week. Two things got in the way:

- One life

- Two Flixel

Flixel is really interesting as it appears to directly address the hassle of Flash games… which is of course Flash itself. While of course the program is still “Flash”, Flixel is in essence written in Action Script 3 which is cool and, in opinion, much easier to work with. To make the deal even sweeter I have attained an educational copy of Flex Builder, making this senario even cooler.

To see some of the games that have been created with Flex Builder head on over to: flixel.org My favorite titles so far have been Canabalt, Fathom, and Gravity Hook.

Also I’m trying out Drop.io for distribution of Attack of the PRIMITIVES … there are both Mac and Windows versions here now with a simple laser upgrade. To use the laser simply hold the fire button ‘/’ for five seconds and it will rain destruction for three seconds after you release the key.

See You Again Soon.
